Main Thesis: How to technology, (The Internet) effectively and integrate it into the curriculum?
Learning should be investigative rather than spoon-fed. The learning must become an active, participate rather than just a casual receptacle
- Curriculum as Journey:
-In schools where curriculum is treated more as journey (or a process) rather than as an end, there is the possibility of real learning to take place.
-Student must develop their own relationship to the data given and be able to construct their version of the "truth."
- Strategy One: Provide Good Interfaces
- "A good interface provides many or all of the following elements:
* Selectivity - Helps users cut past info-glut and info-garbage.
* Quality Control and Reliability.
- Organization - Guidance to users, clarifying Purpose through Questions, Instructions, Leads and a Sequence of Activities." (1)
- Providing a good interface to the material you wish to present can help provide a road across the weeds.
C. Strategy Two: Elevate Prospecting Skills
- It used to be that education was about facts and figures, with little regard for the students relationship to the material covered. Education today should be more about process; how to construct relevance to and from the information gathered.
- Part of the job of an educator and the educational process should be to guide help students in the use of the technology, by providing concise strategies (ways of searching for information) that will result in the possibility of discovering information that is relevant to the search involved.
- Strategy Three: Provide Scaffolding and Research Infrastructure
-This "Scaffolding" the author discussed, reminds me of the Hegelian Dialectic
(thesis, anti-thesis and synthesis) the race rather than an end; greyness rather than black or white.
