Background

Seattle Washington until the age of two, Salt Lake City, Portland Oregon, then on to San Diego by the middle of First grade. Saint Mary Madeline to be exact, or "School of the Mad" as I remember it. Childhood forty-three years ago, and now a teacher at Helix. It's funny really.

As far as jobs go, only really three long term ones. Fifteen years at Wherehouse Records, two years at ETV in Encinitas Ca., while working on my teaching credential and now at Helix High School. Helix feels like home. Last year I found the "Memories" page of my High School annual. Said right there I wanted to be a teacher. Took only twenty-two years.

Greatest short term job was at Mermetec, making "water vests" for skiers in the late Sixties. I did not last long on the assembly line. Before teaching I spent 15 years with Wherehouse Records, most of that in management. In fact it was one of my employees that suggested that I might make a good teacher. Glad I listened.

Interests, Activities & Plans

This year I am teaching three courses at Helix; US History; AP US History; and Sheltered US History. I'm half way to my Master's Degree. A few years ago I added a CLAD credential, which will allow me to continue teaching Sheltered History. In terms of long term goals, I plan on finishing up my Master's program. In addition, doors open daily within education. I will enter the ones I find most appealing. Somehow I know that continuance in education will require more and more expertise with computers and how to integrate teacher, student and machine within the educational process.

Quick Note:

Helix will soon become "Helix Charter School." Education really is a process.

Other Interesting Things

Interests include poetry; Russian literature; Ice Hockey; Photography (black and white), spending long hours on my bike ; trying to figure out how to use the resources of the Web in my class; remembering how much time I used to spend reading Lenny Bruce and dreaming of traveling back to northern New Mexico, or Montana going White Water Rafting.
