John Geary

DOCTOR OF DISCIPLINE

John Geary, the Helix resident Doctor of Discipline, delivers "prescriptions" for detentions and Saturday school right to the classroom door. Students know when he's coming. They can hear the rattle of his cart over the concrete and visualize his smiling face behind the "I make room calls" sign. The whole procedure takes minutes. John, a T.S.A and social science teacher, calls the "patients" out of their rooms and dispenses their "prescriptions" for absences, truancies, lockouts or other minor conditions. They return to class tasks, and he's off to the next room. This streamlined operation is just one of several significant changes at Helix, along with the new quarter system and EXL, a tutor-assistant program for students. Just like Domino's Pizza, John Geary says, "I deliver."
