Background
You can take the girl out of the plains but you can't take the plains out of the girl! I was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and lived there until third grade. My father rejoined the Navy and was sent to, of all places for the Navy, Lincoln, Nebraska. Our family moved to GrosseIle, Michigan; Long Beach, California; Millington, Tennessee; Anaheim, California; and then to Seattle, Washington, where I stayed to complete my college career and to marry Jerry back in 1967!
My husband and I have lived in a variety of places including Salem, Oregon; New York City and here in Lemon Grove, California. We have two active sons. Blake is a graduate of Helix High School and Clint is a senior at Helix.
I have taught school from first grade level to high school. For two years I was in the Ramona School District teaching in special education at a boys ranch for boys ages 7-17 who were placed there by the courts. I spent ten years in the Lemon Grove School District where I was a reading teacher and later became the Librarian for the two middle schools. I graduated up to Librarian at Helix High School in the fall of 1989. Currently I am a two-day Librarian and three-day Title 1 Coordinator.
Interests/ Activities/ Plans
I love reading, camping, swimming, and especially traveling. Experiencing new places is a great way to meet new people and to expand one's horizons. I also enjoy quilting when I have time. There is a thimble collection displayed on a wall in our home. I also collect anything that has to do with Noah's Ark, including children's books. Read any good books lately?
I am involved with CSLA (California State Librarians' Association) and other professional organizations. I am always eager to hear of new and innovative learning strategies that work with heterogeneously grouped students.
Other Interesting Things
Something that most people do not know about my husband and I is that we collect very old canning jars. Believe it or not, these antique fruit jars can be very old and unique. How exciting it is to find a rare one at a garage sale or junk shop! There are actually books written about these jars and Jar Clubs in some parts of the country.
