Semester One: Civil War Project
Directions: Everyone must do part "A." In part
"B," choose one of the activities. There are 100 points possible.
Any work that is not typed must be neat, legible, and spelling and punctuation
perfect to receive full credit.
Part A:
- What were the reasons that Major Sullivan gave in fighting
the war? List the reasons in order of their importance. Number each reason.
Look on pages 252-53 of American Voices for Sullivan's letter.
- Next, compare and contrast Sullivan's reasons with any
other soldier from another war. For this you will need to research letters
written, during times of war by other soldiers. Additionally, I need a
copy of the letter or letters that you used for comparison. Attach these
to the end of your paper.

252-252 of your textbook. (2-3 pages, typed, double
spaced) (50 points possible)
Part B:

Major Sullivan. (see book for letter)

to them the death of their son.

and fifty years old.
