Equipment Advances
The SEPA Program has allowed
the High School consortium to acquire equipment that should help
students achieve the technology goals by allowing teachers to plan
activities and projects that can be accomplished because the
technology is there. Although both Morse and Helix High Schools are
already wired with T1 connections, there were not enough fast
computers available in any one location to make classroom assignments
possible. The SEPA grant monies have allowed that to change. This
process is expected to continue but, as of now, the SEPA grant has
allowed the following advances.
- Buy 18 Mac G3 computers.
Initially these were used to compliment the existing computers in
a Mac Lab. This allowed the lab to accommodate an entire class at
one time where every student has their own computer to use without
sharing, and each computer has a fast internet connection. This
lab was open to any teacher on a sigh-up basis.
- Buy 23 iMac computers for
use in the SEPA science classrooms thus allowing cooperative group
projects within the classroom. These are divided into 3 classrooms
and integrated with SEPA G3 computers and other school computers.
Classrooms are available to other teachers in a room swapping
arrangement when needed.
- Upgrade 16 computers so
speeds and ethernet connection could make internet access
reasonable.
- Use 13 of these computers in
science classrooms. These are available to other teachers in a
room swapping arrangement when needed. They allow for cooperative
group projects.
- Buy 2 Mac Tower G3 systems
for use by the science department and students on special
assignment in SEPA science rooms. One prep room is set up for
multimedia and video production and conferencing.
- Buy peripheral equipment for
use in special locations.
- color printers
- scanners
- zip and floppy disk
drives
- computer cameras for
video conferencing
- CD ROM Writer with blank
CDs
- Buy a Sony Handicam Cam
Corder for video recording and production
- Buy a Fax machine to
facilitate communication with service providers and
consumers
- Buy supplies for computer
equipment
- print
cartridges
- paper
- zip and floppy
disks
- Buy software
- Inspirations
- Adobe Premiere
- CUSeeMe
- Buy extended
warranties
- Buy security equipment for
