The main goals of this class are:
Course Expectations/Outcomes:
You will be expected to be able to analyze data in a variety of forms: from primary and secondary documents; to graphs and Political cartoons.
This course will require approximately, 60 pages, per week, to be read. I expect you to come prepared to discuss the material.
Because approximately 60% of your grade on the AP test will be derived from your ability to write well, this course will require a great deal of writing from you; in fact an essay a week.
You should be able to understand and defend a variety of viewpoints on issues past and present, as well being able to differentiate history from myth, fact from fiction and the fine line that often obscures the two.
Summer Readings: A separate handout will contain a list of summer readings you must complete by day one of class.
Homework/Projects: It is expected that an individual who enrolls in this class will complete all written and reading assignments by the due date. It is expected that with the degree of difficulty this class requires, you will do a minimum of at least one hour's homework each night.
Grades: Grades will be based on tests, chapter handouts, homework and "In class" writings.
Tests: Although makeup tests will be allowed, I would encourage you to make every effort to take exams as scheduled. If you know you are going to be absent on the day of a test, you may make arrangements to take the original exam before the test date. Make-ups may be a different test.
Class Binder: A class binder, exclusive to this class is a requirement. I will go over this with you in some detail.
