Mrs. Trevino’s Involvement and Interests

The following are some of my current goals and interests in relationship to school and the community:

Travel – I love to travel!  I have been fortunate to visit many American cities and a few foreign locations.  Specifically, I have traveled to Washington D.C., San Francisco, New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New Orleans, Sacramento, San Jose, Santa Rosa, Lake Tahoe, Orlando, Cape Canaveral, Santa Cruz, Dallas, Cody (Wyoming), Jackson Hole, Providence, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, London, Paris, Nassau (Bahamas), Mazatlan (Mexico) and of course Tijuana, Mexico.  I have desires to travel to many other locations – this year I hope to visit an American city I have not visited – Portland.  I also plan to travel abroad next year – haven’t quite decided where.

My Afternoon Occupation – I especially find enjoyment in running all over the county delivering my two girls to their soccer and swim practices.  We are able to squeeze those activities in while keeping up with other school activities.  I find it amazing that on any given weekday or Saturday, I can spend four to five hours watching them play sports or transporting them from place to place.  In either case, I am blessed to be able to spend time with them!

Spirit Club – The year 2002 begins with a new endeavor, increasing school spirit through the support of student athletics.  With the cooperation of Kelsie Milligan and MacKenzie Smith (ASB Spirit Commissioners) and Mrs. Leighton (Helix Cheer Advisor), we are forming a new club on campus directed specifically at school spirit during sporting events.  There is initially a tremendous amount of support from students and staff.  It is our hopes that the amount of spirit at sporting events becomes more obvious and supportive of the outstanding athletic programs at Helix.

Helix Budget Committee – As an faculty “at-large” representative of the budget, my goals are to assist Helix in making sound fiscal decisions of our limited resources.  Through this committee, it has a true learning experience into the income and expenditures of schools.  More importantly, Helix has the freedom to allocate money to programs that improve the quality of education and services for our students.

Active Grassroots Supporter of the GUHSD Governing Board – Recently, I have become a political activist.  It has been extremely frustrating to watch elected representatives decide that they know what is best for the people of the East County.  I believe that the voters can and will make sound decisions with regards to their property tax assessments.  If the tax seems valid, voters will support it.

As a new resident of the East County who works in a facility that is need of modernization and basic maintenance, I have found it my responsibility to educate voters on the condition of our schools.  Fortunately, Helix is in better condition due to being a Charter school.  Charter has allowed the school to make some decisions to improve our campus (such as fields, classroom furniture, bathroom remodels, and library remodel).  With this in mind, I hope to speak to my neighbors and others willing to listen about electing representatives to the GUHSD Governing Board that actively support ALL children in our community.

H.E.F.F.E.R.S. – Friendship!  I truly enjoy spending time with friends.
Alice, Wilma, Momma, Clarence, Madge, Dolly, Daisy, Bessie, Elsie, Flo, and Maude – you all make my life easier and so very entertaining!  Work or life would not be the same without you.

Other Interests include an occasional ride on a motorcycle, boat, or other fast vehicle.  I enjoy challenging activities.  I love sunsets, dancing, and being near the ocean.  My current musical interest include jazz music.  I generally enjoy all types of music and am also partial to musicals.
