Honors
Geography Spring 2003 Ð
Mrs.
Trevino
Welcome
to the 9th grade Honors Geography course. The following information can answer
some of your questions.
General
Information: This is a fast-paced course covering a wide variety of
themes dealing with physical and cultural Geography. The Honors Program
is designed to prepare students to enter ÒAdvanced PlacementÓ courses,
therefore, expectations and standards are higher.
Grading: This course is
designed around units with specific standards for each unit. Grades are
divided into weighted categories. It is through the weighted categories
that letter grades are assigned.

Work
Ethic Expectation: A high level of dedication to academics is
expected of all students. Students are expected to complete all
coursework. All coursework will have specific due dates. No late
work is accepted. All unit standards must be met in order to complete the
class.*
¥
Major projects, essays, and speeches must be resubmitted if the score is below
the standard. A student may resubmit these assignments until a minimum
passing score is accomplished. Failure to complete ALL major projects,
speeches, and standards will result in a failing or incomplete grade.
Homework/Classwork: Assignments may be viewed by
using the Internet at home or school. You can view the work on the
teacher homepage. You may access the link through www.helixcharter.net
Attendance: There is generally a
correlation between regular attendance and success in academics. Missing
school is not a wise idea, especially on the Òquarter systemÓ. Make-up
work is the responsibility of the student. Make-up tests are held during
Wednesday tutorial from 8:05 Ð 8:45. More than 5 absences will result in
failing the course. Excused absences can be made up in Saturday
school. Lockout is enforced.

Availability: I have class periods 1, 2, & 3. Due to other school
responsibilities, I am generally not available during period 4. I am
available by appointment, during Wednesday tutorials, and many days after
school. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Generally, my classroom is available on Tuesdays/Thursdays during EXL for self-motivated students.
I am
looking forward to a challenging learning experience. I know that through
hard work, integrity, and dedication, we all will learn from each other.
I believe that you will enjoy the course. However, I know that you will
be challenged to apply your skills to new concepts. I hope to see both
students and parents at the ÒBack to School NightÓ. Through parent,
teacher and student partnerships, we can all experience a greater level of
achievement.
Sincerely,
Paula
