THE PAPER

Students may write on any topic related to their project: from the relationship between jazz and classical music, to innovative medical procedures, from the painting of Renoir to interior design techniques, from robotics to the innovations in automotive design, from scholarship funding to choreography. The paper is a research paper, not a report about the student’s project.

The paper must be at least eight pages, typed or word-processed, and documented according to the MLA (Modern Language Association) format. Students must use a minimum of five sources. Both primary (personal interview) and secondary (books, magazines, newspapers) sources will be required. The process of writing the paper will be taught and monitored in the English class. Students must complete the process—not taking, outlining, drafting, revising and editing—as well as the final draft, meeting all assigned deadlines.

For students in English first term, the preliminary draft, typed or word-processed, will be due to the English teacher on November 16th, the final draft on December 13th. For students in English second term, the preliminary draft, typed or word-processed, will be due to the English teacher on April 26th, the final draft on May 23rd. No late papers will be accepted. Please recognize that mechanical failures (computers, ribbons, etc.,) do not excuse students from due dates, nor do absences. Plan wisely. Save copies to disks. Print after each substantial revision.
