The

Project Proposal
By September 15th,
all seniors will submit a completed Project Proposal Packet which will include
the project proposal, signed parent agreement forms, advocate signatures, and a
project consultant contract. The Senior Project Advisory Committee will
evaluate the student’s project proposal based upon the challenge each student
must have their projects approved before beginning any work on their projects.
Proposals must be complete in order to receive approval.
This phase of the Senior Project requires seniors to produce a project
or performance in an area of their own interest. The project must be completed
on the student’s own time and must be of enough magnitude to require at least twenty hours of
independent work. The project will be monitored and explained in the social
science class.
The must choose a project that is a
challenge. For instance, a senior who is skilled in music cannot merely play
another musical composition. Such a student would need to stretch further,
perhaps write and perform a piece of music of learn to play a new instrument.
While we encourage community service and career exploration, students must
create a product or provide an actual service which has been designed by
themselves. Therefore, volunteer work for existing community organizations or
working at jobs with adults in career areas of interest to the student are
possible options for the project, but the student must design, create,
organize, or write something which can be evaluated. An experience in itself (a
job shadow, an internship, a special class) does not qualify as a project. The
student may use the experience; however, to help in creating the project.
Students are responsible for
arranging their own project consultants. Project consultants need to have
expertise in the student’s project area and may not be family members. Students
must communicate with their project consultants at several stages of the
project, showing their progress as well as their completion. Project consultants
will evaluate the students on the degree of challenge in the project, the
skills and knowledge acquired , and the quality of time commitment to the
project. Furthermore, the consultant must verify that the student has spent a
minimum of 20 hours on the project and has completed it successfully. For
students in social studies first term, the project must be completed by January 10th. For students
in social studies second term, the project must be completed by May 17th.
