SEPA Grant
Amount and Duration of Award
The phase 2 implementation study is designed for a 3 year
duration. The amount of the Implementation award is contingent upon
Congressional approval of annual budgets but is anticipated to be
approximately $800,000. for the entire three years. From this amount,
UCSD Medical School will recieve just over half with remaining funds
going to Helix High School for distribution to Helix and Morse.
During this time, the program will be fine tuned so that it can
easily integrate into a normal high school curriculum. In addition,
an adjusted version of this program will be distributed to interested
schools throughout the nation with the intent to establish this
program as a model.
The phase 1 experimental pilot study was designed for a three
year duration with the option to write for a phase 2 implementation
award. The pilot award was first granted July 10th 1998. To cover all
expenses for three years, Morse High School during year 1 & 2 and
Helix High School during year 3, the consortiums under UCSD Medical
school received approximately $100,000. per year for each of the
three years. This amount was subsumed under the overall award.
