Art Career Path

This path is perfect for the student who loves making art. The Art Career Path is designed to develop a solid understanding of art and technique in a student artist. Students will build a portfolio of work which will demonstrate their skills and abilities. This is a two year program which builds on the successful completion of Art 1-2. This course of study includes a variety of classes ranging from traditional art classes to core classes taught from an art viewpoint.

My Division II - Term One

Art 3-4 builds on the skills begun in first year art. New materials and concepts will be introduced, and the student will begin work on a portfolio suitable for presentation at an art college interview or job interview. Students will produce work for the school and district art shows. Students will explore the role of the artist within our society and the world of work. Some cross-curricular activities will take place during this term with US History for the Artist.

US History for the Artist is a course specifically designed to integrate the artist's role and viewpoint into the history of our nation. This exploration will cover how the artist has reflected the changing attitudes of Americans, the growth of the US, and the critical role that artists have played during various important events and periods. Some cross-curricular activities will take place during this term with Art 3-4

Division II -Term Three

Senior Seminar in Art covers a range of courses. Some students will be enrolled in Art 5-6, some in Art 7-8, and some in AP Art. The course promotes each student's unique exploration into art. While the class will be oriented towards strengthening the student's portfolio, some of it will involve further exploration into the importance of the artist in the workplace. A large part of the class will involve discussions and readings about art. Further, the students will organize and put on the school art show. Many cross-curricular activities will take place during this semester with Humanities for the Artist.

Humanities for the Artist is a senior English class focused on the strengths of student artists. Much discussion about art and artists, as well as some art projects will be used to develop the students understanding of the humanities. During this class students will write the paper section of their senior project. Many cross-curricular activities will take place during this semester with Senior Seminar in Art.
