Integration of Technology into the Curriculum

The SEPA proposal calls for the integration of the following technology skills into the curriculum. This will expose students to these skills and give them a forum for learning these skills. A wide variety of projects or components of projects will be used by SEPA teachers in all subject areas thus encouraging students to become proficient with the following technology skills.

Web Research
The wide availability of connected computers will allow for many projects that send student to the World Wide Web for research.
E-Mail
The contacts and relationships begun by SEPA Activities will be extended through E-Mail and assignments that expect students to keep in touch with their contacts.
Web Site Construction
Many class projects in a variety of subjects will expect the final product to be a Web Site, complete with links, graphics, backgrounds and other tools common on current web sites.
Inspirations
The program 'Inspirations' will be used by teachers for homework, group projects, and as a base for power point presentations.
Power Point
This presentation program will be required for a number of group projects and this will help train students for Senior Exhibitions.
Video Production
Video editing software will be used for the production of some presentations for Junior High and Elementary School audiences .This technology tool will allow some students to become proficient in the production of videos.
Video Conferencing
With some of the high school computers being equipped with camera, connections, and software for video conferencing, and the extensive video conferencing facilities and equipment at UCSD, coordination between a SEPA students and physicians or student health advocate mentors will encourage acquisition of video conferencing skills. In addition, remote vitural field trips will be possible so students can tour facilities they could not ordinarily be able to enter.
