Welcome to the home page of

Birthed in Ann Arbor, Michigan,
and imprinted in Chicago, my earliest memories are of a wild train trip
to the Golden Gate City at age 4. I spent my formative years in Northern
California (Los Gatos). As a highly impressionable and idealistic teen,
my first two college years were spent at Emory
University (aka the Harvard of the South) in Atlanta, Georgia,
where I demonstrated for peace and racial harmony, tasted and rejected
grits, and discovered my avocation. I met the man of my dreams, married
at age 19, and promptly changed schools. I left the red clay of Georgia
for the hills of Appalacia and never looked back.
In 1973, I graduated with honors
in Biology from The University of the
South (aka the Oxford of the South) located in Sewanee, Tennessee
on the Cumberland Plateau. After graduation, we moved to Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida where I was the first woman (in a miniskirt) ever hired as a Sanitarian
Engineer at the Broward County Health Department. After a two year stint
of approving septic tank permits and patrolling polluted swimming pools
on the beach, we took a short vacation to visit my sister in South America.
Three years later we were still living in Bolivia
where I taught in the American School in Cochabamba. My daughter Heather
was born a year later. We next started and ran the California Language
Institute in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, an English Language school. After 3 fantastic
Spanish-filled years in South America, I returned to get my offical teching
credential and a Masters Degree from San
Diego State University. About that time daughter #2 arrived (Hillary)
and we decided to stay for awhile in San Diego. I began teaching science
at Lincoln High School in 1978, and I've been teaching science at Helix
Charter HS since 1985. I have recently begun a joint doctorate program
at SDSU and USD in Teaching and Learning. Check back in five years and
see if I made it! If you really want more info about me, you can click
