Pre Calculus Course Outline |
| Materials needed
daily: A pencil, a textbook, and a scientific
calculator are needed every day. I suggest buying a
graphing calculator like the TI-83 (for about $90) because
it is the model chosen by our textbook. For a notebooks
I recommend Cambridge quadrille graph paper pads. The
student can do all their homework and note-taking in
these. Rulers are also very helpful because we will
draw many graphs.
Grades: Based on a point system:
Assignments and Presentations: 5 points each (see rubrics)
15%
Quizzes and exams: 50 -100 points each, usually each
chapter 70%
Final: multiple choice and written response, 200 points
15%
A: 100 – 90%, B: 89 – 80%, C: 79 –
70%, D: 69 – 60%, F: Below 60%
Making Up Work: Assignments must be
ready to be turned in the next school day. For each
day a student is absent, they have a day to make up
their assignments. Presentation make-ups are done when
the student returns. Quizzes and exams are made up after
school or during an alternative period that is suitable
for both teacher and student. When a test is missed,
the student should contact me ASAP to arrange for make-up.
Students should always keep in touch with me about missed
assignments. Good communication with me will always
help you.

etc. Include simple sketches from the calculator with
critical points noted.
d) If you cannot get the answer, write a brief question
to ask in class the following day and save room to copy
the solution.
Grading: 5 points for homework which has all the elements
listed above.
2 - 4 points for work which attempts to follow the format
above or does not include all assigned problems.
0 -1 points for lists of answers, pertinent information
