Abstract
For my Senior Project I plan on painting a symbolic mural on the Art
Building. This mural will consist of choosing what I will want to paint,
drawing it up and getting it approved by a group of teachers, learning
to paint on a 18ft. by 9ft. surface, prepping the wall for painting
and eventually painting it. Additionally, I will have to gather all
paints, brushes and other materials for my mural. My consultant is an
art teacher at Helix (Mr. White) and will direct me on what I will paint
and the steps of doing it. My project will take place as soon as I get
it approved. I intend on getting ideas of what I will paint from classmates
in my AP Art class and also the Art teachers at Helix.
Learning Steps
1. I will need to learn how to paint on a larger scale.
2. I will need to learn how to use different types of paint and brushes.
3. I will need to learn terms used in painting murals.
4. I will need to learn how to create a mural with meaning and effort.
5. I will need to learn how to plan accordingly so I do not fall behind.

Project Justifcation
This project will be challenging to me in many ways. I have never painted
a mural any bigger than 5ft. by 5ft. In this case my mural will be 18ft.
by 9ft. I have had lots of experience in this field. I have been in
art classes ever since I could hold a pencil. In these four years at
Helix, I have taken Art 1/2, Art 3/4 and two years of AP Art. The murals
that I have painted before have been in my own room. ther were usually
abstract and bright in color. In middle schoola dn high school I have
had great art teachers that have both taught me a great deal and have
served as inspirations in my life. I want to accomplish this because
I want to prove to mostly myself that I am a unique and different artist
and also that I can do it if I put my mind to it.
Project-Paper Connection
I plan on writing my paper about the murals of San Diego. The murlas
that we see around us everyday have inspired me to do this project.
So I have decided to do some background reserach about each one and
learn the different tecniques and processes used while planning out
and painting these murals. I felt like I owed it ti the muralists of
San Diego to do this and give them back the inspiration that they gave
to me.

Academic Honesty
I know it is illegal to copy someones else's words without giving them
credit. It is also illegal to fabricate information and/orhave someones
else write an part of my paper or do my work on my project. Any of these
things constitutes plagiarism and violates the school'a Academic Honesty
Policy. To do so will result in a failing grade on the paper, project,
or both, and if guilty, I will not graduate, or take part in the ceremony
in June 2002.
