As a peer mediator
at Helix, Kristin Ritchey decided that her Senior Project would
get other students at Helix involved with Peer Mediation as well.
With consultant Mrs. Vickery, who is not only a counselor at Helix
but also the peer mediation advisor, by her side Kristin put together
a weekend of Peer Mediation activities. The project took place in
the Helix library making the location very accessible for any interested
students to attend.
Although those involved worked hard,
with continuous activities, they received free snacks and lunch
throughout their hours spent there. The project cost Kristin approximately
$200 spent on food and supplies. Overall, with the negative pressures
teens face daily, having trained peer mediators on campus is definitely
an excellent resource.
